Barely months following its announcement of its Middle East homeport and sailings, Resorts World Cruises has unveiled another new development: the addition of a third ship to its fleet – the Star Scorpio.
The 1,800-passenger, 78,000 gross-ton vessel will embark on its maiden voyage from Singapore Cruise Centre on 26 March 2025, marking the start of a dynamic series of Southeast Asian itineraries. Bookings for Star Scorpio’s sailings will be available from 10 January 2025 onwards.
The deployment will span popular destinations such as Jakarta, Bangkok, Melaka, Ho Chi Minh City, Ko Samui, and Pulau Redang, with voyages continuing until 21 July 2025.
Diverse itineraries and dual homeports across Southeast Asia
Passengers embarking the Star Scorpio from Singapore will have a variety of exciting itineraries to choose from in 2025:
6-Day/5-Night Melaka-Jakarta Cruises: Ten sailings (26 March – 15 April, 11 June – 1 July)
6-Day/5-Night Bangkok-Ko Samui Cruises: Five sailings (20 April –10 May)
5-Day/4-Night Ko Samui-Pulau Redang Cruises: Three sailings (15–23 May)
4-Day/3-Night Melaka-Medan Cruises: Five sailings (27 May – 8 June)
6-Day/5-Night Melaka-Ho Chi Minh City Cruises: Four sailings (6–21 July)
Besides the Singapore homeport deployment, Star Scorpio’s itineraries are designed so that passengers can also embark round-trip cruises at the dual homeports in Jakarta, Bangkok, Melaka, and Ho Chi Minh City. These homeport options are strategically aligned with regional school holiday periods and the ‘Hari Raya’ celebrations to cater to local markets.
Jakarta (via Tanjong Priok Port): Eight sailings from March 29–April 13 and June 14–29.
Bangkok (via Laem Chabang Port): Five sailings from April 22–May 12.
Melaka ((via the ICQS cruise terminal): Five sailings from May 28–June 9.
Ho Chi Minh City (via Phu My Port): Four sailings from July 9–24, making Star Scorpio the first-ever cruise ship to homeport in Vietnam’s bustling metropolis.
“We are pleased to introduce Star Scorpio as the third cruise ship for our fleet and to kick start her maiden deployment in Singapore. Star Scorpio’s dual homeport in Singapore with different countries in Asia will offer Indonesians, Thais, Malaysians and Vietnamese round-trip cruises from their ports during their peak holiday periods without the need to fly to another country”, said Michael Goh, president of Resorts World Cruises.
“For Vietnam, Star Scorpio will be the first cruise ship to homeport in Ho Chi Minh City, allowing Vietnamese to enjoy affordable cruises to Singapore and Melaka. For Singapore passengers, the 14-hour Jakarta port time will allow passengers to go to the historic city of Bandung using the new high-speed rail, which travels at a speed of up to 250 km per hour with the rare chance to also visit a live volcano” he added.
Revamp for Star Scorpio
Prior to commencing operations in 2025, Star Scorpio will undergo a US$50 million renovation and upgrade in Singapore and will feature many restaurants, bars, showroom and other recreational facilities. Like other Resorts World Cruises ships Genting Dream and Resorts World One, Star Scorpio is expected to offer a diverse lineup of entertainment, parties and activities onboard the ship.
