Where can 10 divorced Koreans find love again? A Reality TV show is hoping that Australia’s Gold Coast will soon reignite their passion.
Seoul-based Maeil Broadcasting Network’s dating reality show ‘Love After Divorce: Season 7’ attracts 23 million viewers in Korea – more than 45% of the population.
A collaboration between Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ), Tourism Australia, Experience Gold Coast and Korean Air will see seven to eight episodes of the 12-episode season filmed in Queensland, including Brisbane.
It follows record levels of Korean tourism to Queensland, as the latest data from Tourism and Events Queensland shows 77,000 Koreans came to Queensland in 2024 – up 81.9% over the past three years.
What should these summer-loving divorcees look for on the Gold Coast? They could cuddle a koala at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, sip gin and gaze into each other’s eyes at Tamborine Mountain spirit distillery or try massage and foot therapy at Broadbeach.
TEQ and Tourism Australia, in conjunction with Korean Air, plan to entice more visitors to Queensland after the show broadcasts by collaborating with a consortium of seven Korean trade partners who specialise in promoting outbound romantic destinations as well as online travel agency (OTA) partners.
Phillipa Harrison, managing director of Tourism Australia, said, “Screen tourism is a great way to showcase destinations and it is something we are increasingly looking to leverage to highlight parts of Australia into key markets around the world.”
