A recent survey conducted by Blue Cross has revealed that 74% of young people in Hong Kong choose to travel in search of unique and exciting experiences. However, a significant portion of this demographic is not adequately protected, with one-third of young travellers unaware of the importance of purchasing travel insurance.

The survey, which highlights the preferences and behaviour of young travellers, underscores the growing trend among younger generations seeking more adventurous and distinct travel opportunities.

Conducted via online questionnaires, the survey found that 69% of the respondents plan to travel twice or more in the next 12 months, while 22% expect to travel three times or more.

Responding to questions about travel-related concerns, 71% of the respondents are most concerned about flight delays or cancellations; half (50%) of the respondents fear lost or damaged luggage. More than a third (34%) admitted they do not purchase travel insurance when travelling, of which 42% considered it unnecessary.

Blue Cross CEO Bonnie Tse expressed concern over the lack of awareness, emphasizing the need for better education on comprehensive travel insurance. “Their lack of protection awareness is concerning. In addition to common travel disruptions such as flight delays and lost luggage, comprehensive travel insurance provides crucial protection and mitigates the risks against accidents, injuries, and illness during the journey.”
