Wonder what the long queue is for at Dubai Duty Free? Chances are travellers will be queuing up to take home a bar of Dubai chocolate, a must-have duty free item that went viral on TikTok.

Dubai Duty Free figures show travellers  at DBX are spending a whopping Dhs1 million (US$273,000) on Dubai chocolate every day. Sales of the chocolate in April accounted for 4% of total turnover at DBX.

Manufactured by FIX Dessert Chocolatiers in Dubai, numerous copycat versions of the Pistachio Kataifi Chocolate Bar have been attempted, including one by Lindt,  but the original is still prized by chocolate lovers.

For those yet to try the chocolate, the bar is packed with a combination of pistachio cream and kanefah, a popular Middle Eastern dessert, which is made with shredded pastry, sweet cheese filling and pistachios.

Those who have tried the original FIX chocolate - it’s not cheap at almost US$20 a bar - say the standout element is the crunchy nature of the filling, with the filo pastry adding a texture and thickness to the bar.
