Sofitel has revealed the first glimpse of the AU$60 million (US$40.1 million) transformation of landmark Australian hotel, the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth.

The five-star hotel will reopen in October after a refurbishment, which includes upgrading its 436 guest rooms and suites and creating a new dining precinct featuring two restaurants and two bars, alongside one of Sydney most iconic roof terraces.

Tilda restaurant will serve flame-cooked seafood while French-Vietnamese cuisine will be a feature of fine dining at Delta Rue.

Following a ten-month redesign, the hotel, which began life in 1966 as Sydney’s first five-star international hotel, will reopen with a Health and Wellness Studio, gym, and an executive lounge for existing members and day pass holders.

The hotel’s pillarless Wentworth ballroom, one of Sydney’s largest at 629sqm, will also be given a major upgrade as part of the renovation.

Since its launch as Sydney’s first luxury hotel, Sofitel Sydney Wentworth has hosted an illustrious array of royals and celebrities. These include the late Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles, the late Princess Diana, Bill Gates, numerous film and sports stars, and American Apollo astronauts, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins.
