Japan Airlines has launched a same-day luggage delivery service from Tokyo Haneda Airport, allowing overseas arrivals to head for their hotel without having to haul heavy luggage through the capital city.
The Japanese carrier's "JAL Same-day Delivery Service" will be available to all "foreign tourists" arriving into Terminal 3, on any airline, and can be enjoyed by Japanese residents as well.
The service will help to address what the airline calls the "social issue" of Tokyo's overcrowded public transportation systems and a shortage of luggage storage lockers.
JAL's service costs 4,500 yen (US$29.50) per item of baggage and is available from JAL ABC Counter located on the 2nd Floor of Haneda's Terminal 3 arrival lobby. Opening hours are from 04:00 to 18:00.
The delivery destination is limited to hotels only. For those who check in for the delivery service before 4 p.m. local time, they will receive their luggage at the hotel by 8 p.m. Travellers arriving at the airport between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., will have their baggage delivered no later than 10 p.m.
The delivery service applies to 11 districts across Tokyo: Shinjuku, Shinagawa, Chiyoda, Chuo, Minato, Koto, Ota, Shibuya, Taito, Toshima, Bunkyo, Sumida, Meguro, Edogawa.
