Vietnam is set to construct an international cruise port in the coastal city of Vung Tau, with an estimated investment of VND 8 trillion (US$314.7 million). The project aims to accommodate luxury cruise ships carrying up to 6,000 passengers and is strategically located near a cable car complex at Front Beach.
Proposed by the Portcoast-Tediport-Hpec consortium, the port will include various amenities such as terminals, shops, offices, hotels, and tourist accommodations. Supporting infrastructure will feature parking areas and additional facilities.
The port's design will allow it to receive vessels of up to 228,000 gross tonnage, enabling ships to dock on both sides. There will also be dedicated areas for cruise ships, official vessels, and maritime services.
Once completed, the Vung Tau international cruise port is expected to become a major gateway for southern Vietnam, attracting domestic and international visitors. The port will serve as a venue for cultural and economic events, promoting local products and bolstering the region's economy.
The Ba Ria-Vung Tau People’s Committee is currently finalising the project's pre-feasibility study and preparing to select investors for its development. Last year, Ba Ria-Vung Tau welcomed over 80,000 cruise passengers, and in 2024, 50 cruise ships have already registered to dock at the Cai Mep-Thi Vai port area, bringing thousands of tourists to the province and the neighbouring Ho Chi Minh City.
