After taking a hiatus during the pandemic, Dunedin’s iconic Taieri Gorge Scenic Train is once again operating regularly in Otago, offering passengers a chance to explore New Zealand's stunning landscapes.
The historic train, which travels from Dunedin's magnificent railway station to Middlemarch, takes passengers through the rugged Taieri Gorge, showcasing deep ravines, towering rock faces, and picturesque valleys. The journey includes live commentary from local guides who share the rich history and natural beauty of the region.
The Taieri Gorge Scenic Train is now represented by the New Zealand Travel Collective, led by director Trish May, who is focusing on reconnecting the product with the travel trade sector. “This journey represents an important piece of Dunedin’s tourism offering,” said May. “I’m privileged to be showcasing this product to the travel trade and have recently completed a sales mission to the UK and Europe.”
“Working closely with the general manager, we’ve developed comprehensive strategies to reintroduce this unique experience to both domestic and international markets,” added May. “The initial response has been overwhelmingly positive, with strong interest from travel professionals across key international markets.”
The Taieri Gorge Railway, built between 1879 and 1891, continues to offer a unique and authentic New Zealand experience, appealing to those seeking boutique rail journeys. For more information, visit the New Zealand Travel Collective website.
