The departure was announced on 18 February, the day after Jason Montague returned to Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) as chief luxury officer to oversee the Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania brands.
Del Rio had been expected to remain at Oceania and report to Montague.
In a letter sent to travel advisors, Montague announced that Del Rio would depart and thanked him for his "outstanding stewardship" of Oceania and assembling a strong leadership team. Montague also applauded Del Rio and his father, Oceania co-founder Frank Del Rio, for leaving an "enduring legacy on Oceania Cruises and the broader industry."
