A recent study by Booking.com reveals that Asia-Pacific (APAC) travellers are set to embrace tech-driven and personalised travel experiences in 2025, reflecting broader changes in traveller interests across the region. Nearly three-quarters (72%) of APAC travellers say they will use technology to make responsible travel choices, emphasising informed and authentic experiences that positively impact destinations.

Top trends include:

  • Noctourism: In response to rising daytime temperatures and interest in nature, many APAC travellers are opting for night-time adventures, with stargazing and other dark-sky experiences taking centre stage.

  • Wellness Reimagined: Longevity retreats, focusing on lasting health benefits through activities like stem cell therapy and red light treatments, are increasingly popular, with 60% of travellers showing interest in long-term wellness.

  • AI-Driven Itineraries: Many travellers are now keen to explore destinations in a more customised way, with 49% expressing interest in using AI to design unique, tailored itineraries that enhance engagement with local communities.

In light of this trend towards more personalised, tech-based travel, Booking.com has launched its AI Trip Planner in Singapore, the first market in Southeast Asia to access the tool. Built on machine learning and OpenAI’s ChatGPT API, the AI Trip Planner allows travellers to refine their travel ideas and get tailored suggestions on accommodations, destinations, and activities.

According to Anthony Lu, regional director of Southeast Asia and China at Booking.com, the tool “allows [travellers] to plan their trips in a natural, conversational manner, transforming travel planning into a truly personalised experience.”

Since its initial beta launch in 2023, the AI Trip Planner has hosted 3.7 million users and generated over 1.2 million recommendations, meeting the demand for a more flexible, interactive approach to travel planning.
