Mandarin Oriental group has elevated Amanda Hyndman, one of its most experienced and best travelled executives, to the role of chief operating officer, following the retirement of Christoph Mares.
The appointment adds to the growing number of women taking up senior management positions in luxury hospitality.
Hyndman has been with the group for 18 years, during which time she has held several senior management roles in Mandarin Oriental hotels in the UK, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Washington DC.
She has also handled area vice president roles overseeing hotels in the UK, Germany, Czech Republic and Switzerland, as well as Hong Kong, Macau and Southern China.
Hyndman was appointed in May 2023 as chief people and culture officer with the task of driving the group’s evolution from HR to people and culture, a role she continues to hold.
“As we roll out our strategy to transform Mandarin Oriental and unfold our full potential, it is timely for Amanda to be in this elevated role to champion people and culture as well as to drive operational excellence to deliver success,” said Laurent Kleitman, chief executive, Mandarin Oriental Group.
